This does seem like a strange question to ask, why are we in love with black gadgets, but it does make you wonder. The majority of people know by now that we are a nation of gadget lovers. Whether your gadget of choice is an iPod, a mobile phone, or a netbook. We all have these little gadgets that go everywhere with us and that we can’t live without.

However, when the time comes that we have to choose a new gadget, why do we always opt for the same colour.

This question came to me when I was reading an article about the new black Nintendo Wii which is being released in November. Nintendo have said that they expect to see a rise in sales when the black console is released. However, why would they think that just because they release their console in a new colour that would get a sales boost. It’s not like their competitors have made considerably more sales due to having black consoles. In fact, the Nintendo Wii has actually sold more units, and that’s a white console.

The question about gadget colour can be asked in a number of electronic markets. You can take the mobile phone market as one example. When the iPhone was released, the black backed version sold out well before the white backed. All you have to do is look at the phones on the shelf and you’ll see that the majority will come in black only.

Another market would be the TV market. Less than 10 years ago, you could buy a new TV in almost any colour, with silver and black being the most popular, you could even buy blue or pink if you really wanted to. However, now it’s an almost impossible task to find a TV that isn’t black.

These days, pretty much all gadgets come in black, from backwards clocks to binary clocks. It’s hard to see the main reason why we always opt for black gadgets. Although black gadgets don’t show as much dirt, they do collect alot of dust. Plus, if your black gadgets were to get scratched, the damage would be more visible compared to a scratch on a white or silver item.

For those of you who are not huge black gadget fans, for the time being, you can still get some other colours. Although this may change in the near future, you can still manage to grab a LED shower head without it being black. As for the question of black gadgets, I have no idea, maybe someone else has a better idea?
